Launch of "Clevedon Canoe Club" in partnership with "Clevedon Sailing Club" and "MARLENS"

The club is launched under the patronage of Bob Slee - director of Palm Equipment International Limited in Clevedon.
It will make the best use of the Marine Lake as a water-sports resource and ensure that there are continuous development opportunities for paddling enthusiasts to explore and strong links with other seafront sports clubs.

Bob says "I have always been keen to support local events that encourage young people to become active in water sports activities. We have a wonderful resource in the Marine Lake and I am pleased to have been approached to assist in a small way to develop this project. I would urge anyone who is even vaguely interested in supporting our initiative - whether it’s to participate in the canoeing/kayaking activities or to make themselves available to assist in some way regardless of ability or age - to come along to the first meeting and be a part of this exciting development."

Stage 2
We have a new, secure, community boat store for which funding was secured from YANSEC (Yanley And North Somerset Environmental Company) They also sponsored our New Community Sailing Boats with additional funding provided by North Somerset and MARLENS. The Kayaks were donated by Palm Equipment International Limited.

Stage 3
To continue the regeneration of the seafront we intend to add a new, wide, smooth slipway beside the lake to provide safe and easy access to the channel waters for would-be paddlers, splashers, crabbers, boaters, channel swimmers and windsurfers.

A proposal to extend the public toilets, at the Elton Road entrance, by the addition of simple changing rooms and showers for public use was put forward by a Clevedon Town Councillor at the Council House on Thursday 6th July 2006 at 7:30pm. We can build on this idea.

We hope to recruit parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents & friends from the "School Pilots" & "Have a Go" sessions so that cadet sections & school action can grow. Volunteers to train as coaches, instructors or assistants should let us know URGENTLY on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The Community Fleet of canoes and sailing dinghies was created by MARLENS, with generous donations from YANSEC (sailing dinghies) and Palm Equipment International Ltd (kayaks).

2 open canoes and 2 Pico dinghies were added this year to increase the range of skills which can be taught.

Clevedon Sailing Club (our local experts in sailing) owns, maintains and operates the sailing dinghies of the Community Fleet on behalf of the community, as shown in the document below.

In August 2008 the fleet comprises 10 boats plus ancillary equipment (launching trollies, safety equipment):
  • 8 “Oppie” dinghies, for use only on the Marine Lake.
  • 2 “Pico” advanced training dinghies, which can also be used on the open water.

Any organisation which would like to use the sailing dinghies should contact Clevedon Sailing Club.

Clevedon Canoe Club (our local experts in canoeing) maintains and operates the kayaks and canoes.

In August 2008 the fleet comprises 9 boats plus equipment.

  • 7 kayaks
  • 2 open canoes (Canadian style)

The canoe fleet is stored in the Community Boat Store.

Any organisation which would like to use the canoes should contact Clevedon Canoe Club.
